Before attempting to execute a search in Kluwer Arbitration, take a moment to familiarize yourself with the many search, filter, and results options:
- Apply optional Pre-search filters such as Jurisdiction, Author, Court, etc.
- Enter keywords in the text field;
- Select a search expression from the automated Search suggestions. NOTE: Search suggestions appear after three characters are typed. You can click one of the suggestions or continue typing.
- Take greater control of your search by using Boolean operators. See More about Boolean operators.
- Execute your search using the Search button.
Search Results
The search results page is divided into several sections:
- The search bar allows you to add keywords or rewrite your search.
- Your results are categorized into different content types. Click any category to filter your search results by type. To select more than one category, hold down the keyboard shift key.
- Select filters to limit your results to Publication type, Author, Jurisdiction, etc. Use Clear all to remove selected filters.
- Use the Search keywords only in titles toggle to narrow results down to only those that contain the keyword in the document title. Note: This feature is only available to full subscribers.
- The search results header provides recordkeeping tools (i.e., download, print, share, etc.) for selected documents. These options are only active once you have selected documents by checking the boxes.
- The last two icons provide you with URLs you can copy to your clipboard and share. Click on copy RSS feed
to copy the feed URL to your clipboard. Click on copy url
to share a URL leading to these specific and filtered search results. If you do not see these two icons, click the three stacked dots
to expand your options.
- You can also Sort your results by Date or Relevancy and Display by Summary, Detailed, or Title only.
The more specific your query, the fewer results the system will return. If the query is not very specific (like “expropriation” in the example below), there will be a lot of search results that can be narrowed down by selecting categories and applying filters.
More about Boolean Operators
Boolean operators define the connections between words. Use them to create more specific search results. Below, is a list of Boolean operators recognized by Kluwer Arbitration with definition, example, and an explanation of the results.
IMPORTANT: Boolean operators must be written in all capital letters to be recognized by the search engine.
